The Asian Fawnlilies of Asuke are located on slopes of Mt. Iimori facing northwestwards and occupy an area of about 0.5 hectares. Every year between about mid-March and late-March it is possible to see the cute blossoms, which open almost all at once starting from a particularly warm day somewhere in the season. Curiously, if it rains or the sky is covered, the flowers do not show their graces.
Almost at the same time, several other flowers also start to bloom: "Kikuzaki-Ichige" (Anemone pseudoaltaica - although named "Kiku", which means chrysanthemum, it's of the buttercup family), "Yamaruriso" (Omphalodes japonica), "Nirinso" (Anemone flaccida), "Nabewari" (Croomia heterosepala), "Hitori-Shizuka" (Chloranthus japonicus), and in early summer, "Shaga-no-Hana" (Iris japonica). These form the group of "spring ephemerals" - perennial varieties that sprout and blossom in spring, dying and receding to their underground parts before summer arrives.
